Peru is the 2nd richest country in the world in variety of birds, and Cusco with 973 species offer excellent scenarios for the practice of bird watching. In the department of Cusco you can choose between highland and mountain valleys (Sacred Valley), cloud and elfin forest (Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, Manu National Park) and polylepis woodlands (Abra Malaga).

The best routes for bird watching in Cusco are located from Ollantaytambo to Quillabamba, within which is Abra de Málaga – Ipal with a large number of endemic species. In the area of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu you can find numerous species of hummingbirds and birds of cloud forests. The birdwatchers paradise is in the Manu National Park with more than 1005 registered species.
