Huacarpay Lagoon (3,000 m.a.s.l) is the best spot for sighting the main bird species in Cusco region. The lake, with its calm waters, sprawling totora clumps and flooded areas, is overlooked by hills studded with cactus and native trees (Schinus molle). It concentrates more than fifty resident species of birds; around 25 migratory and 20 occasional birds with specific spots.

The highlight of this swamp is some endemics birds like Bearded mountaineer, Rusty-fronted Canastero, Chestnut-breasted Mountain-finch, others one more difficult to spot, like the Streak-fronted Thornbird.  And of course, we can observe many lagoon birds and others surrounds this area.
